Prepare an association grant application with Claude: evidence, project and budget
By Dorian Laurenceau
Claude can help prepare an association grant application by organizing evidence, rewriting a project description and identifying inconsistencies. Start with the actual funding call. The assistant does not determine eligibility or replace the funder’s application procedure.
Our fictional French association, “Atelier des voisins,” plans four digital-skills workshops. The example illustrates document preparation; it does not provide legal advice or promise funding. References were checked on October 14, 2026.
Read the current funding requirements
Download the notice, form, deadline and budget rules from the funder’s official website. Service Public’s association-grants page provides general French context. Some schemes use specific online procedures, including Le Compte Asso.
Create a matrix with requirement, supporting passage, required document, available document and unresolved question. Verify the deadline directly. An old template can omit new criteria or request the wrong budget categories, even when its wording looks professional.
Organize the evidence folder
Separate administrative records, project material and the budget. Record file dates and whether each document is signed, approved or provisional. Work on copies and keep the original records distinct from generated drafts.
Use only information necessary for the task. Aggregated participant figures often suffice for planning; personal beneficiary lists may be inappropriate to share. Follow the association’s rules for using an external AI service and begin with fictional data when testing the workflow.
Describe a project without inventing commitments
The fictional project consists of four two-hour sessions for twelve adults. Its intended outcome is improved ability to complete three specified digital tasks. These are proposed activities and outcomes, not results already achieved.
Link the need, audience, activities, resources and measurement method. Ask for a short form response and a longer appendix version. Missing facts should be marked as questions, rather than completed with a plausible partner or municipal endorsement.
| Element | Fictional example | Verification |
|---|---|---|
| Activity | Four digital workshops | Venue and dates confirmed |
| Audience | Twelve adults | Recruitment method specified |
| Outcome | Complete three tasks with less help | Before-and-after observation defined |
| Partner | Library involvement proposed | Written agreement still needed |
An indicator should identify what will be observed and when. “Improve inclusion” is an intention; a count of participants completing task A is a possible measurement. Do not invent an impressive success percentage without a baseline and method.
Reconcile the budget and funding status
Our fictional expenses are €480 for facilitation, €120 for materials and €100 for transport: €700 total. Planned income is a €500 grant request and €200 from the association. Recalculate the figures in the spreadsheet; a balanced budget does not establish expense eligibility.
Distinguish requested, confirmed and possible funding. Check whether the notice expects tax-inclusive amounts, contributions in kind or another particular format. Use the Excel verification workflow to catch duplicate rows and inconsistent units.
Prepare an application evidence matrix
Prepare your instruction here. This module sends no data to a model: copy your brief into your chosen tool.
View the starter instruction
From the supplied notice and documents, create a requirement, source, available evidence and unresolved-question table. Draft the project while separating established facts from proposals. Do not invent partners, achieved outcomes or confirmed funding. Check budget totals and flag eligibility questions for the funder.
Review, submit and keep the record
Ask someone who did not write the first draft to check the application. They should be able to locate each amount, understand the timetable and identify the association’s commitments. Compare the final text with form limits, attachment requirements and signature rules.
Submit through the official process and retain the receipt and submitted version. Add an “evidence to retain” column to project indicators so later reporting is easier. Download the application checklist and use the document-summary guide for larger folders.
